“Away” Release Date

South African music is set to receive a long awaited boost to its stable of talented artists and musicians with the arrival of two dynamic musoes, DJ Roxxi and Nic Billington.

DJ Roxxi will release her debut offering next month with the catchy electro funk piece entitled “Away”. The song, which features rising star Nic Billington on vocals, is a radio friendly track that has been given the magical touch in production by Craig Massiv, of the hugely popular South African group Flash Republic.

DJ Roxxi and Nic Billington have collaborated to deliver a brand new and fresh track that is set to rock airwaves and clubs alike in the coming weeks. Hailed as a fusion between electro pop and funky house, “Away”, samples a bit of everything to culminate in an up-temp danceable track for the music masses.

Defying the usual routes of music distribution and opting for a unique method in releasing the track, the duo have decided to embrace the information super-highway by launching the single online on May 15 2009.

In an unprecedented move, Roxxi and Nic will be launching a website created solely for the distribution and downloading of the track.

“This bold move comes at a time when we needed to launch our style, brand and sound to the masses effortlessly and accessibly. The internet seemed the most viable option right now” said Nic.

“We hope this unique method encourages other up-and-coming South African artists to use the internet as an added bonus when distributing their material” said Roxxi.

Both Roxxi and NIc have enjoyed enormous success via MySpace, Facebook and Youtube with an excess of over 100 000 people being exposed to their creative efforts. No mean feat considering all this was achieved in a space of less than a year.

Splashy Fen 2009

I just got back from South Africa’s longest-running and most renowned annual music festival, Splashy Fen.

It was my very first time attending the annual event and it certainly lived up to all the hype. I got to see great acts like Stealing Love Jones, Gold Fish, Napalma and many more. It was a very enjoyable and memorable experience. I loved the whole camping thing as well.

I’m looking forward to the next one.

Flash Republic

Instead of stressing at home the night before my show, I decided to go out and support my favourite local act at Society. It was such great fun catching up with Tamara and the boys from Flash Republic, and as usual, they totally blew the crowd away. Their new album “Danger” is in stores at the moment…

Success!

The launch for Away really turned out to be one incredible night. The crowd was fantastic and very supportive. It was the first time I’ve ever performed with dancers, and although challenging trying to remember the dance routines while singing, it all worked out perfectly in the end.

None of it would have been possible without the exceptional help from many talented individuals, who put all their efforts into making this performance as successful as it was.

I want to thank my two beautiful dancers, Sky Krummeck and Kelli Baleta (for styling as well). You both know we totally rocked it right? Well done!

Michelle Green, thank you for your time, patience and professionalism. The choreography was tight.

Des from Dance Direction, thanks for saving my ass on this one and for all your kind efforts. It really means a lot to me.
